Ioanna Drakaki's Unique Approach to Olive Oil Packaging Design

Drakaki's design for the Oi1 organic olive oil is inspired by the designs of medical bottles, emphasizing the health benefits of the product. The dark brown glass bottle not only adds an aesthetic appeal but also serves a practical purpose, preserving the quality of the oil by protecting it from light exposure. The Oi1 Premium, on the other hand, is presented in a clear Dorica bottle, housed in a cylindrical container. This design allows consumers to appreciate the color of the oil while keeping it safe from damaging light.

The unique properties of the design lie in its simplicity and functionality. The use of simple elements creates an exclusive design that stands out in the market. The packaging design was realized using printing on transparent self-adhesive labels mounted on 500ml glass bottles. This approach gives the bottles a clean, minimalist look, highlighting the quality of the oil inside.

Technical specifications of the design include a height of 29 cm and depth of 6 cm for the Oi1 premium, and a height of 22 cm and depth of 8 cm for the Oi1 organic. The packaging cylinder has a height of 29 cm and a depth of 7 cm. These dimensions ensure that the bottles are easy to handle and store, adding to their practicality.

The design project, which started in October 2010 and was delivered in February 2011, included the company and product name, full corporate identity, packaging design, and web design. The first product appearance was at the BioFach World Organic Trade Fair in Nuremberg, Germany, in February 2011. Since then, the products have been featured in prestigious food halls and specialty and health stores in countries such as Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Russia, and the USA.

The design was recognized with the Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2012, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations. This award is a testament to Drakaki's innovative approach to design, reflecting her ability to combine aesthetics with functionality to create a product that not only looks good but also serves a practical purpose.
